Sporting Clube de Goa 2-0 Rangdajied United FC: Kashyap's side succumb to Flaming Oranje

The Goan outfit were the first team in the competition to down Rangdajied United...

Sporting Clube de Goa kept their chances of progression into the final four intact as they downed Rangdajied United 2-0 at the MDS Stadium, Manjeri with goals from Boima Karpeh and Victorino Fernandes in the second half. They would now pin their hopes on East Bengal not losing to Bengaluru FC in their second group B match on Tuesday.

Oscar Bruzon made a change from the last game as he included Jovel Martins for Victorino Fernandes. On the other hand, Santosh Kashyap for the first time in the competition altered his starting eleven as he included Munmun Lugun in place of
T Lalnunpuia.

The first chance of the match came Rangdajied’s way in the 9th minute, when David Ngaihte sent in a teasing cross from the flanks but Kim Song Yong failed to open the account as the North Korean striker’s header from the edge of the six-yard box went inches over the bar.

In the 13th minute, Sporting had their first goalmouth opening action when Ogba Kalu went on one his trademark down the middle daunting runs but his effort went past the target to deny Sporting the elusive first goal.

However, both the teams showed an attacking intent, but too many miss passes in the midfield halted the pace of the game.

In the 23rd minute, Sporting got another good chance when Boima Karpeh tried to befool the opponent custodian from distance, but his shot hit the outside of the net.

Sporting survived a scare at the half hour mark when David Nghaite made a run from the right flank and none of the defenders tackled him. Just at the opportune moment when he was to shoot, Gonzalo Neila made a crucial interception.

Ogba Kalu saw his attempt from outside the box go inches wide as he latched onto a second ball after Karpeh had done every so well to hold it upfront.

Rangdajied looked better on the ball but the two teams were guilty of conceding possession unnecessarily in the middle of the park.

Just eight minutes after the break, Sporting took the lead through Boima Karpeh. Rowllin Borges sent in a through-ball for Karpeh who seeing the goalkeeper off his line decided to chip as his effort nestled into the back of the net.

Two minutes later, substitute Victorino Fernandes scored but the linesman had his flag raised for offside.

Victorino kept troubling the Rangdajied rearguard as he ran from the middle to go one-on-one with goalkeeper Surjay Pariyar and slotted home into the bottom right corner to make it 2-0 in the 70th minute.

In the final ten minutes, the Flaming Oranje decided to shut shop and deny Rangdajied any opportunity to come back into the tie.

The score-line remained the same as Rangdajied and East Bengal made their way out of the Federation Cup.
