The Red Lizards climbed to the second spot after their victory over the Kolkata outfit on Wednesday...

Pune FC seem determined to keep their I-League title hopes alive after beating Mohun Bagan 3-1 at the Kalyani Stadium, Kolkata. The win takes Derrick Pereira's side three points ahead of East Bengal, who have played a game less, and are now on the third spot.

Douhou Pierre (27') opened the scoring and the lead was doubled after the break with James Moga (65') getting his name on the scoresheet too. Karma Tsewang ended all hopes of Bagan's comeback when he scored in the 77th minute. Odafa Okolie did however manage to pull one back in the third minute of the second half injury time but it was a case of too little too late.

Pune FC pushed themselves on the offensive from the kick-off and broke past the Mohan Bagan backline in the 27th minute when James Moga deceived receiving a pass from Khanthang Paite, who was the architect of the move, while Douhou Pierre found the target from an unmarked position.

After picking the ball from his own net, Shilton Paul denied Karma Tsewang after the latter was set up by Moga in the 32nd minute.

The custodian on the other side, Amrinder Singh was also called into action when the Pune goalkeeper pulled off mention-worthy saves, twice against Bagan's Nigerian striker Odafa and later on against the home side's left wing-back Biswajit Saha as the visitors were leading at halftime.

20 minutes in the second half, Pune FC doubled their lead after midfielder Pierre intercepted a pass from his counterpart Jewel Raja. The Côte d'Ivoire national charged ahead and found team-mate Moga, as the South Sudanese striker's left-footed shot brushed off the crossbar before nestling behind the line in the 65th minute.

Karma Tsewang then scored Pune FC's third goal in the 77th minute with a flick above onrushing Shilton, after the former was played in a promising position by substitute Mumtaz Akhtar.

Odafa was kept quiet for most of the precedings until the third minute of injury time that saw the Mohun Bagan striker score a consolation goal for his side.
