Following the success of the first #WritingGamesNG competition held in August 2016, Nigeria’s largest football website,, and the University of Sussex, a top United Kingdom educational institution, are set to unveil a new competition this month.

Using football as a tool to encourage young people to write and explore their country, #WritingGamesNG 2016 was a success as the winner, Oladele Oluwasogo got himself an all-expenses paid trip to attend the Writivism Festival in Kampala, Uganda.

The #WritingGamesNG returns this year and it will offer young Nigerians an opportunity to write about football in order to win big prizes.

More than 135 entries were received in 2016, with interest expected to grow in the competition this year.

The topic for this year’s essay and other rules and regulations will be announced on Monday, August 21.

Last year’s judges, Professor Dipo Salami of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, and Professor Richard Follet of the University of Sussex remain.
