Ulinzi Stars will miss the services of two key players when they face River Plates in the FKF Shield quarter-final on Saturday.

Masita Masuta and Omar Mbongi were both pulled out in the Soldiers 3-0 victory against Nakumatt on Wednesday. The duo are unlikely to recover in time for the trip to Kakamega when Dunstan Nyaud faces the lower division side.

“We celebrate the win but then it came at a big cost and now we will have to do without two of our warriors,” Nyaudo told ulinzistarsfc.com.

Masuta picked a recurrence ankle injury while Mbongi has a problem with his thigh. “They will be assessed by the medical team for a detailed report but I don’t think we will have them in the next match.”

Ulinzi sealed a double over Nakumatt, just four days after completing the same fete against Chemelil Sugar. Ahead of the last two games, Nyaudo had called on his players to give a strong finish as the season draws closer.

“We are winding up the season and though we couldn’t reach our target of winning the title, it is important that we finish strongly.

“The strategy we have now is to look for goals then lock the game and I am happy with how we have responded. I only wish we had played this way earlier.”

Ulinzi Stars are fifth on the 18-team log after collecting 44 points.
