Lorient striker Abdul Majeed Waris has emphasized the importance of team work in the club's bid to win the relegation battle in the French Ligue 1.

Les Merlus have been disappointing this season as their nine wins, four draws and 19 defeats leave them 18th on the table with six games to go.

Waris and Cameroon striker Benjamin Moukandjo have been involved in 26 of the club's 37 goals scored this campaign, but the Ghanaian reckons their contribution has been as important as that of the rest of the team.

"I do not think we need to talk about only two players but the whole team," Waris told his club's official website when questioned on the importance of his partnership with the Cameroonian.

"Everyone works for the good of the team, everyone defends. We fight for each other. We are a collective.

"Each player has something to bring to the team. We all have responsibilities. It is with this state of mind that we will succeed in our mission."

Waris joined the Ligue 1 outfit on a three-year deal worth €5 million from Turkish side Trabzonspor in summer 2015.

He has also played for Valencienne, Russian outfit Spartak Moscow and Hacken in the Swedish topflight.

Lorient, meanwhile, will hope to make it four wins in a row when they face Montpellier on Saturday.
