Nigeria senior women team bowed 3-2 to Dominion Hotspur Football Academy in a friendly encounter at the Atlantic Hall Secondary School pitch on Thursday.

A first half brace from Etim Friday plus Kolawole Bashiru’s second-half strike saw Thomas Dennerby’s ladies narrowly lose their first pre-Africa Women’s Cup of Nation warm-up match.

The African queens made an impressive start to the contest as Amarachi Okoronkwo gave them the lead with her stunning long-range strike in the 17th minute of the first half.

However, the boys piled up the pressure and finally gained a breakthrough when Friday blast past goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi twice to ensure a comeback lead for the U17 male side.

In the second half, Dominion added the third in the quest to cement their lead when Bashir capitalised on a defensive blunder to fire past substitute goalkeeper Christy Oheariaku.

In the closing stages of the encounter, substitute Chioma Wogu reduced the Super Falcons’ deficit after she made an easy finish off a rebound from substitute Rasheedat Ajibade strike.

Despite the defeat, Dennerby will be looking forward to another warm-up match to make up his mind on those that will make the 21-woman final squad on or before Sunday, October 4.
