Sunshine Stars will not be relegated from NPFL, says Kayode Julius

Sunshine Stars assistant coach, Kayode Julius is optimistic his team will escape the drop from the Nigeria Professional Football League this season.

Having secured a 2-1 triumph over topflight returnee Heartland in Akure, the Owena Whales were hoping to a slip-up in Katsina against Abdullahi Biffo's side.

However, Tasiu Lawal's second-half strike ruined the hopes of Henry Abiodun's side securing an away point as the visitors suffered their ninth league defeat this season in 22 games.

And the gaffer attributed their defeat to his team's failed effort in clearing it new players during the transfer window but however still assures they will keep fighting.

"It was disappointing that we lost again though we fought hard against Katsina United," Julius told media.

"We came here with great intentions to get some from the match but it did not happen for us. Every other team has strengthened their team with new players and they are using them to prosecute matches.

"But we have about seven new players we can't use for now. We are hoping the LMC grant us the permission. The players are all officials all did well we will go back home to continue our fight and hope to come good even at our game soon.

"I strongly believe we will not be relegated from the Nigerian Professional Football League. Everyone in the team is not happy with the situation but we will stay strong and keep working hard to survive relegation by the end of the season."

Sunshine Stars are 19th on the log with 24 points from 22 games and they will be hoping to qualify for the 2018 Federation Cup.
