Sofapaka defender Mousa Omar has been called up to the Burundi national team for the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Gabon.

Omar joined the 2009 Kenyan Premier League champions in January and has been a key figure for John Baraza side.

Omar’s contribution to Batoto Ba Mungu, who are sitting fourth on the log, has attracted the attention of Olivier Niyungek, who summoned the defender for the big assignment in Libreville, according to Sofapkafc.co.ke.

The all-round defender, who also plays as a  defensive midfielder, has made 20 appearances for Sofapaka this season.

Burundi has been boosted by the availability of Stoke City striker Saido Berahino, who represented England under 21 national team at one time.

Berahino was granted permission by Fifa to switch allegiances from England to Burundi early in August.
