Serbia v Wales Betting: Toothless Dragons not so fearsome without Bale

Missing the match-winning talents of Bale, Al Hain-Cole thinks the Dragons' recent run of draws could end in defeat against Slavoljub Muslin's hosts

Wales will be hoping to close the gap on first-placed Serbia when they travel to Belgrade for Sunday’s World Cup qualification clash.

Four points adrift of the top two after five matches in Group D, Chris Coleman’s side are on offer at 4/1 (5.00) with Betfair Sportsbook to give their chances of qualification a major boost by coming out on top at the Stadion Rajko Mitic.

However, the Eagles have only lost to European champions Portugal in their last eight matches on home soil, and are 7/10 (1.70) favourites to maintain their strong form with another victory here.

The guests’ qualification ambitions have been frustrated by a run of four consecutive draws, and there are odds of 13/5 (3.60) available on them being forced to settle for a single point yet again in this one.

After the euphoria of their Euro 2016 success, it is difficult to view the start to the Dragons’ World Cup qualification campaign as anything other than a disappointment.

Although unbeaten at the halfway point, Coleman’s team have been let down by a failure to kill off teams when in front – taking the lead only to be pegged back in three of their last four matches.

However, March’s 0-0 draw in Ireland was perhaps the most frustrating match of the lot considering it not only saw Neil Taylor sent off for a bad tackle, but also produced a Gareth Bale yellow card that means the Real Madrid man is suspended for this potentially crucial clash.

With their chances of breaking the deadlock therefore severely diminished without the man responsible for four of their eight goals in qualification, it seems more likely that any goal they do concede will see them end up in defeat.

Having scored 12 times in their five matches so far, Serbia are well worth those 7/10 (1.70) odds to take advantage of the understrength Welsh side and come out on top.
