After a long career almost exclusively spent in Europe, Australian striker Scott McDonald could be on the verge of finally coming home to play professional football in the A-League.
Bursting onto the scene as a 15-year-old in Victoria, McDonald moved to England not long after linking up first with Southampton before later more memorable stints with Celtic and Middlesbrough.
The now 34-year-old has just finished another stint in Scotland, this time with Dundee United, and is clearly interested in a long-awaited return to Australia with an A-League move in his sights.
"It’s been on the cards, tried to be explored for the past couple years," McDonald told The Daily Football Show.
"For one reason or another it’s not happened up till now and I’m very open to the opportunity of it, but I’m not closing any other doors at the same time.
"Realistically it’s up to other people, not up to me.
"But certainly if you’re asking me if I was interested to come home and play in the A-League then most definitely yes."
Arguably McDonald's brightest point of his career was when he was with Scottish giants Celtic between 2007 to 2010 where he banged in 51 goals from 88 appearances.
Though he could never translate that success to the national arena, failing to score a goal across 26 senior caps, McDonald's long career has been incredibly consistent and the man himself believes he still has plenty more to give.
"I'm just going to take the next couple weeks to get some rest first and foremost and sort of re-evaluate everything," he said.
"I still have aspirations to play a few years yet."
In his most recent campaign with Dundee in Scotland's second division, McDonald made 34 appearances scoring 15 goals.
