Sane raring to go for Senegal at World Cup

Senegal defender Salif Sane says he is all ready for the challenge at the World Cup.

The Hannover 96 star is among a group of 23 men who are set for the Teranga Lions' first appearance at the global showpiece since the country's debut in 2002.

To repeat their quarterfinal berth at their last tournament, Aliou Cisse's outfit must break out from a tricky Group H, which also features a Robert Lewandowski-led Poland outfit, Colombia and Japan.

“I have already played Lewandowski [four times], so I know how to handle him," Sane is reported by Soka25east as saying.

"I do not mind playing in central defense.

“Versatility is a quality, an asset for me.

"All positions to which the coach will put me, I will do my best.

“Everyone is ready to play at the World Cup. Everyone is in shape.”

Senegal open their campaign against Poland at Otkritie Arena in Moscow on Tuesday.

The Lions then face Japan at Central Stadium in Yekaterinburg on June 24 before finishing off their group fixtures against Colombia at Cosmos Arena in Samara four days later.

Sane is set to switch clubs after the World Cup, having agreed to join Schalke 04 after the tournament.
