Cristiano Ronaldo was wrong to steal the headlines by hinting at a Real Madrid exit in the wake of their historic Champions League triumph, says Vicente del Bosque.

As the Blancos toasted a third successive European crown, and a 13th in total, their Portuguese superstar was busy suggesting that a summer move away from the Spanish capital could be on the cards.

Ronaldo’s post-match tease saw him refer to his time with the Blancos in the past tense, before promising more news in “the next few days”.

His comments quickly took the spotlight away from two-goal hero Gareth Bale, who had stepped off the bench to swing a meeting with Liverpool in Madrid’s favour, and win another major honour for manager Zinedine Zidane.

Former Blancos boss Del Bosque believes Ronaldo acted out of line and in a manner not befitting of the supposed best player on the planet, stating in Marca: "It did not seem right to me.

"Maintaining good personal relationships within a group is important and his words did not help.

"The best ones have to be the most generous in relation to others."

Ronaldo appeared to backtrack on his earlier comments when telling supporters at a parade of the Champions League trophy through Madrid that he intends to see them “next year”.

He is, however, likely to continue dominating headlines throughout the summer, with attention about to be shifted to international matters.

Ronaldo is set to lead Euro 2016 winners Portugal in a World Cup adventure, with Del Bosque of the opinion that the Madrid talisman and his eternal rival, Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, are capable of carrying their respective nations close to the ultimate prize in Russia.

The man who guided Spain to global glory in 2010 added: “The national team are one of the favourites in the World Cup, as well as Portugal and Argentina, who have Cristiano and Messi.”

World Cup 2018 is now a matter of weeks away, with the competition due to get underway in Moscow on June 14.
