Rivers United fought very hard before achieving their first away win of the season last weekend against Remo Stars in Sagamu and the club’s midfielder, Wasiu Jimoh posits that it is equally important for them to secure another three points against Niger Tornadoes in Port Harcourt on Sunday for different reasons.
Before the away win against Remo Stars last weekend the Pride of Rivers had started poorly in their last home tie with Wikki Tourists which culminated in a surprise 2-1 loss and Jimoh disclosed that they are in dire need of a win against the Ikon Allah Boys at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt to pacify their fans and also to improve their position in the NPFL Group A table.
“It was just a bad day in the office for us against Wikki Tourists because we did all we could to get at least a point from that game but were unable to achieve our minimum target and had to settle for a home loss,” Jimoh told GOAL.
“We have picked an important away win against Remo Stars but we must try and seek home comfort against Niger Tornadoes on Sunday because the win will help us have our fans back to our side after the home defeat to Wikki and another three points will help us get further away from the relegation zone.
“Tornadoes are also at the relegation zone and they will like to go all out to deny us the three points after their recent home draw (against Enugu Rangers). We must not allow anything to distract us from this very crucial game.”
