Want away PSG star could fit in better at Milan compared to Barcelona

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot’s future at the French Champions is still up in the air especially after he declined a contract renewal with the club.

Indeed Europe’s elite have been put on alert to the situation and Barcelona has made their intentions clear on acquiring the services of the PSG ace. The Catalan giants have reportedly offered €50 million for the 23-year-old underscoring how high they rate his talents.

Indeed Rabiot is a player whose talents have never been in doubt. Tactically astute and a superb passer of the ball, his stock has risen over the years and is rightly labelled as one of Europe’s exciting prospects.

In the 2017/2018 Ligue 1 season, Rabiot had made more accurate passes (2095) than any other player aged 23 and under. He was also on target as PSG began their Ligue 1 title defence with a 3-0 win over Caen this season.

But should he make the switch to Spain, the Frenchman can see his playing time significantly reduced. This is because he will be vying for a position in Barca’s midfield with the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Arturo Vidal, Denis Suarez and the versatile Sergi Roberto. All of whom are just as good if not better than him.

Now the Spanish side isn’t the only club interested in him as it has been reported that Italian giants AC Milan are also in talks with the midfielder. As strange as it may sound, Milan might be a better fit for him compared to Barca at the moment.

Yes it can be argued that the Rossoneri aren’t quite at the level of Barca but what Milan can offer Rabiot is a starting berth and more than sufficient playing time for him to grow.

If we look back at Milan’s transfer market they had targeted Lazio’s Sergej Milinković-Savić, given that Gennaro Gattuso’s charges desperately needed a creative midfielder. Not landing the Serbian was a blow hence why the Italian club are interested in Rabiot.

Conversely, when analysing Milan’s squad, it is no secret that the midfield is well-stocked with defensive midfielders in the form of Franck Kessié and Tiémoué Bakayoko. Pace and power is there but finesse and creativity is missing. At Milan Rabiot can play in his favoured position without having to worry over defensive duties.

Labelled as petulant, immature and ungrateful at times, Rabiot’s temperament has been called into question several times. But should he arrive at the San Siro there is no better figure to teach him discipline and hard work then Gattuso.

The legendary Italian midfielder built a career on graft and discipline and will have no qualms on teaching the young Frenchman, the proper conduct required of a footballer.  Milan has an interesting project to reach the top as it is a team littered with stars of the future. A testament to this has been Paolo Maldini’s return after years of exile and his uncertainties over the record of past owners.

Taking everything into account, the only downside for Rabiot is that Milan aren’t in the Champions League but then again, he could be the key that finally unlocks that door for the former seven time European champions.
