They finished in 10th position this season and thus avoided a successive drop of division, having been relegated from the Super League in the 2017 season. In a press conference held earlier today, Penang announced that former Hanelang FC head coach Ahmad Yusof to replace Zainal Abidin Hassan.

The Penang state government will be pumping in RM5 million to the team that the management intend to use for all their teams including Youth Cup, President's Cup, futsal teams as well as the women's football. The FA however are on the hunt for more sponsors to come in to supplement that amount.

Dr. Amar Pritpal Abdullah revealed in the press conference that the team will only be targeting to stay in the Premier League by aiming for a top five finish next season. A move that is designed to bring stability to the team after two horrendous seasons.

However, trouble for the Amar and his team also goes beyond the pitch as Penang are still facing difficulties to pay off arrears amounting to approximately RM11.2 million. Amar told the press that state government will be taking up the responsibilties to clear the debt on a budget separate from the one awarded to the FA.
