Nigeria, South Africa handed tricky Cyprus Women's Cup foes

The Super Falcons will battle Thailand and Banyana Banyana must subdue Finland in their final games of the tournament

Nigeria women face Thailand in their last encounter of the Cyprus Women's Cup while South Africa take on Finland on Wednesday in Larnaca.

The African champions were thrashed 4-1 by Austria but bounced back with a 4-3 win over Slovakia before going down 1-0 against Belgium in their final group game on Monday.

To this end, they finished the group stage in third of Group C with three points from three games and were rewarded with a seventh-place clash with the Asians, who finished third in Group B.

The meeting between the two sides will take place at the Tassos Markos Stadium in Paralimni at 2 pm Nigerian time. The meeting will be the first between the two France-bound campaigners.

Banyana Banyana will engage the Finnish side for the second time in the tournament after both teams played out a 2-2 draw in their Group A opener.

Desiree Ellis' side went on to suffer back-to-back defeats, losing 4-1 to Korea DPR and 2-1 to the Czech Republic, while the Pearl Owls bowed 2-1 to the Asians and 1-0 to the Europeans.

The ninth-place match will be the third meeting between the two nations at the Cyprus Cup since 2015, with the Europeans winning the first meeting 2-1.

The clash scheduled to take place at the Tassos Markou Stadium and will kick off at 11 am South African time in Paralimni, where Nigeria take on Thailand moments later.
