Simon Msuva’s Difaa El Jadid have reached the group stage of the CAF Champions League after playing a 2-2 away draw with AS Vital Club of DRC Congo. The results means El Jadid won 3-2 on aggregate following their 1-0 home victory in the first leg.
The former Yanga winger will be the third Tanzanian player after Mbwana Samatta and Thomas Ulimwengu (both TP Mazembe, DRC Congo) to play in the group stage of this tournament with a team from outside Tanzania.
Msuva who scored the only goal of the game in the first leg dropped on the bench for the second leg to pave way for a more defensive play approached by the Moroccan side.
The hosts were ahead after 2I minutes through Bawaka Mabele to make the tie level. Jadid’s Hamid Ahadad and Ayoub Nanah scored for the visitors in the second half to make it 2-1.
However, the home team denied to be punished at their ground and they equalized through Bawaka Mabele although it proved not enough for them to progress.
Msuva will be keen to return to Tanzania to join the Taifa Stars squad to play in the two friendly matches against Algeria on March 22 and DRC Congo on March 27.
