'Mbappe would be a big plus for the Premier League' - Shearer wants PSG star to make the move to England

Alan Shearer wants to see Kylian Mbappe move to the Premier League, joking that the only club he could see him signing for his his beloved Newcastle.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward has regularly been linked with a move to the England, with leaders and champions-elect Liverpool believed to be frontrunners should he decide to make the switch.

With seven major domestic trophies and a World Cup to his name already at the age of just 21, Mbappe would certainly slot in alongside some of the illustrious names who have graced Premier League pitches in the past.

Shearer, still the Premier League’s all-time top scorer with 260 goals, is one of those who would welcome the former Monaco forward's arrival.

When asked which French striker he would want to move to England, the 49-year-old told Canal+: “I would very much like Kylian Mbappe to come. With his skill, the confidence he has in someone so young, and all the goals he scores, that would be a big plus for the Premier League.”

When asked who he would want Mbappe to sign for, Shearer joked: “I only see one club for him, it's Newcastle of course."

Should Mbappe ever make the move across the English Channel he would become the latest in a long line of French strikers to play in the Premier League.

For Shearer, Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud is his pick of existing French forwards playing their trade in England, though it is a player who used to play for Chelsea’s London rivals who tops his all-time list.

“I’m an admirer of Olivier Giroud,” added the former England captain.

“He brings a lot to the team and knows how to make others play. I know he hasn't been used much this season, but as soon as he played, he performed well.

“Now, telling you who was the best French striker of all time is very difficult not to say Thierry Henry. He scored incredible goals, seemingly without any effort.

“When I played against him, it was a match in a match. I didn't want him to score and he didn't want me to score. I didn't want his team to win, but I respected him very much.

“In addition, he has the title of top scorer more than me. So huge respect for him. He was a fantastic footballer.”
