Mathare United scored twice in a span of six minutes to record their second straight win in the Kenyan Premier League.

The ‘Slum Boys’ rallied from a goal down to down a stubborn Nzoia Sugar side with a Chrispin Oduor and Francis Omondi second-half goals.

Nzoia were poised for their maiden win of the season until Oduor rose higher with a glancing header for an equalizer after connecting a cross from Daniel Mwaura.

Nzoia Sugar made their intention known as early as the opening minute when they won a corner-kick, but Vincent Ngesa headed off target as Mathare United survived an early scare.

Three minutes later, Luke Namanda intercepted a diagonal ball from David Owino, powered his way into the area, but veteran defender George ‘Wise’ Owino stepped in with a save as a shaky Mathare United struggled to settle into the game.

Mathare United thought they had found the opener, but the assistant referee waived off Oduor’s 8th minute effort for offside.

Samuel Olwande would then blow away another chance for the ‘Slum Boys’ after he was fed by Edward Seda with a sumptuous delivery but he directed his effort off the mark.

But George Mutimba showed Olwade how to score when he maximized on poor communication by Mathare defenders to slot home for the visiting side in the 31st minute for a 1-0 advantage at the break.

But Oduor headed home an equalizer before Omondi scored the winner from the spot to deny Nzoia their first win of the season.

The Millers lost their second consecutive match having gone down by a solitary goal to Kariobangi Sharks last weekend. Elsewhere, former champions Tusker were held to a 0-0 draw at home by visiting Posta Rangers at the Ruaraka Grounds.

Tusker lost their opening match to Chemelil Sugar last weekend and coach Sam Timbe will have to continue waiting for his maiden win in his second stint in the Kenyan Premier League.

Sammy Omollo’s Rangers played their second consecutive draw after they dropped two points in a 1-1 draw with AFC Leopards last weekend at Afraha Stadium.
