Mathare United captain George Owino has called upon Kenyan Premier League Limited to take action against ‘incompetent’ match officials.

Owino made the call after he attacked second assistant referee Beatrice Achieng for ‘gifting’ Sofapaka an offside goal over the weekend.

Mathare United lost 3-2 to Batoto Ba Mungu in Machakos. Pistone Mutamba benefited from a defensive mishap by Mathare United, to extend Sofapaka’s advantage.

Owino, who made his a 100th appearance for Mathare United, feels that the assistant referee made a wrong call on the goal. “I feel good because it is a big achievement. It would have been even better if we won and celebrated it as a team.

“The first two goals were due to concentration lapse but the third one was a clear offside. (Asieche) interfered with play and that goal should not have stood.

“This referee gave away a similar goal when we were playing Sony Sugar in Awendo and it is high time KPL stamps their authority on such officials. It is unacceptable to commit the same mistake twice at this level,” Owino told the club website.

The loss left Mathare United on fifth place with 34 points, though the skipper is confident we will catch up in the next two matches.
