While perhaps a step too far, there's no doubting Luongo is a precious asset for the Socceroos after not playing a minute at the 2014 World Cup.
Included in Australia's central midfield trio alongside Aaron Mooy and Tom Rogic against Czech Republic, it's clear Bert van Marwijk is a fan too.
While the return of skipper Mile Jedinak to the starting XI casts some doubts over Luongo's involvement in Russia, the man himself believes he's more than ready to start for his a nation on the world's biggest stage.
"It’s bad to say, but I’m expecting it," Luongo told Optus Sport about starting at the World Cup.
"This time I feel I deserve to be there.
"I don’t feel out of my place or out of my comfort zone – it’s where I should be."
A final friendly against Hungary on June 10 will be telling as to whether Luongo can expect to start against France.
