The Red Devils will find themselves in a difficult position if they cannot register three points from their game at home against the Magpies

Manchester United will attempt to bring a halt to their winless streak when they host Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday.

Jose Mourinho's Red Devils have not registered a victory since beating Young Boys in mid-September, losing twice and drawing twice in their subsequent four fixtures.

That poor run of form has seen them dumped out of the Carabao Cup and fall to 10th in the Premier League table, so they will be desperate to kick-start their recovery with a win in front of home support.

While Man United's form has certainly been underwhelming, that of their opponent has been much worse, with Newcastle failing to win in their eight games in all competitions this season thus far.

While negativity continues to swirl around Old Trafford and Man United, Mourinho has maintained a relatively assured demeanour, but patience is sure to be wearing thin at the club and he will have to start putting wins on the board or else decisive action from above will surely be on the cards.

"We are in a position that we can do much better than that and to do that we need points," Mourinho told reporters. "Points that we lost especially in the last two Premier League matches with one point out of six.

"We know that to improve that position we need to win these three points, but we know that our opponent for different reasons also need the points."

In Newcastle, the Red Devils are facing a team who have yet to win a single game in any competition this season and the pressure is building on boss Rafa Benitez as he attempts to extricate the Toon from the drop zone. Benitez and his players had a meal with club owner Mike Ashley on Wednesday, which they will hope will have galvanised the squad.

"[Benitez is a] very, very, very, good coach," Mourinho said when asked about his opposite number. "His team is always very well organised, especially against the teams of the first half of the table. He is very bright on his analysis of the opponents' qualities and tries to stop them.

"The results they had against the top teams didn’t get them points yet this season, but gave them very, very close results and very difficult matches for the opposition. So, we expect a difficult match."
