Defender Fares Hachi becomes the first Algerian player to ply his trade in the PSL after impressing at Masandawana

Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed the signing of Algerian full-back Fares Hachi on a four-year deal.

The Algerian was a free agent after leaving ES Setif, and he becomes the first Algerian player to land a professional contract in South Africa.

Goal had previously reported that Sundowns were in advanced talks with Hachi after impressing the technical team during his trial with the club.

Hachi could be considered a football journeyman having played most of his career in the French lower divisions before signing for ES Setif.

He was released by the Algerian outfit at the end of last season, and the Tshwane giants jumped at the opportunity to bring him on board.

Coach Pitso Mosimane hailed the 27-year-old and stated the player joined them because of his desire to play continental football.

“We like him. We like the player, and what is important is that he also wants to play here (in South Africa) and wants to play Caf football,” Mosimane told the club's website.

Sundowns have also confirmed that Hachi has been registered with the PSL, meaning he's eligible to feature for the club in all domestic competitions.
