'Leeds United defeat a wake-up call', says Stoke City’s Benik Afobe

The Potters started life in the English second tie dismally but the attacker is confident that the setback will stir the team to action

Benik Afobe has stated that Stoke City’s 3-1 loss to Leeds United in their opening 2018-19 Championship game on Sunday is a wake-up call to the team.

The Potters who were relegated from the Premier League last season started life in the English second tier in dismal fashion.

Although disappointed with the defeat, the Congo DR striker who got his side's consolatory effort believes the loss will help them to brace up for upcoming challenges.

"We’re obviously all disappointed,” Afobe told club website.

“I have played in this league for numerous seasons, and it’s a tough league. And the boys realised that [on Sunday]. It’s a wake-up call and we can hopefully put this behind us.

“There were a lot of things that went wrong today, but I know we are going to learn from this and put things right as soon as possible.
