Pep Guardiola's side are favourites to secure a first European title in a highly competitive market ahead of Juventus, Barcelona and Liverpool

Manchester City are the team to beat in this season's Champions League according to the bookmakers.

With the quarter-finals getting underway this week, William Hill are 9/4 (3.25) on the Premier League champions being crowned the best side in Europe for the first time in their history.

While investment in the Citizens has brought domestic success in recent years, a European crown has so far eluded Pep Guardiola's team, but they have leading claims once again according to the odds compilers.

After being knocked out of the competition by Liverpool at this stage last term, it's Premier League opposition for the market principles once again as they square off against Tottenham (20/1).

In what appears an ultra-competitive betting heat, Juventus and Barcelona are both available at 10/3 (4.33) to win the tournament.

Having been instrumental in their comeback against Atletico Madrid last time out, Juve will hope to have the services of the competition's all-time leading scorer Cristiano Ronaldo for their first leg against Ajax.

The acquisition of the Portugal international saw the Italians as a popular pre-season selection with punters. The Dutch side are 33/1 (34.0) shots in the outright market after beating holders Real Madrid 5-3 on aggregate in the last 16.

That leaves the Catalan giants as the only La Liga representatives left in the running, with a team from the Spanish top-flight having won each of the previous five editions dating back to 2013.

Barca will have to get the better of a resurgent Manchester United if they're to progress to the next round albeit Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have experienced a dip in form since their dramatic comeback against Paris Saint-Germain in the last round. The Premier League team are 16/1 (17.0) in William Hill's latest Champions League winner odds.

Liverpool were beaten in last season's final but at 4/1 (5.0) the Reds are expected to make another deep run this time around. Porto by contrast, are 66/1 (67.0) rank outsiders with the same firm.

Jurgen Klopp's side know the Portuguese champions well, having beaten them 5-0 over two legs in the first knockout round last season and while the margin of victory may not be so empahtic, the bookmakers expect a similar end result.
