Katsina United midfielder Destiny Ashadi is eager to face Akwa United in their rescheduled league tie slated for Thursday at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium with the realization that a home win will take them to the top half of the league table.
The Chanji Boys are currently 13th in the league log with 17 points from 13 matches but could go as high as sixth if they secure maximum points against the Promise Keepers and other results are in their favour.
Ashadi disclosed that he and his teammates are warming up to the tie with all seriousness as they do not want to stay anywhere close to the drop zone in their second consecutive season in the topflight.
“It is our desire to pick the maximum points to ease our position in the league table because we do not want to be anywhere close to the relegation zone at all,” Ashadi told Goal.
“It was unfortunate that we lost to MFM the way we did but we are looking forward to a very good performance that will turn back Akwa United empty handed at the end of the Thursday game.
“We played very well in Lagos and even scored first but everything that transpired there is behind us to allow us remain focused on the game with Akwa United. We only have this upcoming game to determine our fate presently and we want to seize the chance very well,” he said.
The midfielder also revealed that one of the enginerooms of the team, Usman Barau’u who missed the last game due to card accumulations is due to return against Akwa United, while he also hinted that was not fully for for the tie with the Olukoya Boys but that he is now 100 percent ready for the Promise Keepers.
“Usman (Barau’u) didn’t travel with us to Lagos because he has collected five yellow cards already this season and must serve a game suspension but he is back now.
“There are other few ones too that are having little knocks that are also back. I was not fully fit for the game with MFM but I am raring to do against Akwa United.”
