Kaizer Chiefs’ Zwane: ‘Never a single day where I got a call from the Bafana Bafana coach Broos’

Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has expressed readiness to meet the South Africa tactician Hugo Broos.
  • Zwane responds to Bafana coach Broos
  • Chiefs tactician was once with the national side until May 2021
  • Believes a meeting with Broos is for the good of South African football

WHAT HAPPENED? The Bafana Bafana coach tried to meet Premier Soccer League coaches last season but his efforts drew blanks. Broos has continued complaining that PSL coaches do not want to meet him, leading to the Belgian giving the coaches a November ultimatum. Zwane believes meeting Broos would be for the good of the country.

WHAT THEY SAID: “Not once. There was never a single day where I got a call from the coach [Broos],” said Zwane as per Times Live.
“Having said that, I am available if the coach wants to meet me because it is not about me, it is about the players as well.

“We need to understand what he wants from our players when they go to the national team. We have to be on the same page, it is about the country and for our football to grow. We want our football to be better and whenever he wants us to meet I am more than ready. If a player doesn't have a cap, they will always not be ready because the more the player plays for the national team the better.

“If a player doesn't get the opportunity at Bafana, there is no way he can be better. That's how I see it, even me as a player the more I got opportunities the better I got with time. If you are not getting call-ups, how are you going to improve as a player because the only time you can is if you play.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE: Zwane becomes the first PSL coach to express readiness to have a discussion with Broos. That could inspire other PSL coaches to meet the Belgian.

WHAT NEXT FOR ZWANE AND CO? The Bafana coach says he will organise a meeting with PSL coaches in November when the league takes a break due to the Fifa World Cup. For the league’s tacticians, it is now up to them to get ready to make contributions to the national team through engagement with Broos.
