Khune believes that Masandawana have been playing mind games ahead of the much-anticipated clash on Saturday night

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has brushed off Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane’s recent sentiments as mere mind games ahead of their clash at the FNB Stadium on Saturday night.

While the Brazilians are highly motivated and raring to avenge their previous defeat to Amakhosi earlier in the season, the 53-year-old mentor has been keeping his cards very close to his chest, even suggesting that he is afraid of Chiefs.

The Glamour Boys are currently enjoying a purple patch, having put aside their inconsistencies and gone on a five-match unbeaten run.

However, Khune is not buying into Mosimane’s utterances, suggesting that the outspoken coach is just playing mind games.

“It’s mind games from Sundowns‚” Khune told the media.

“I was reading somewhere where the coach (Pitso Mosimane) said he’s scared of Kaizer Chiefs,” he added.

Khune though, says that while the former Bafana Bafana coach’s views need to be respected, they cannot afford to take their eye off the ball come matchday.

“But we have to respect that. When he says that‚ he knows what his plans are for the night. And even with us‚ we just have to go to that match ready. We are preparing well,” he said.

Meanwhile, much has been said about the battles that will take place on the field.

Both sets of players will be relatively familiar with each other, considering their ties to the South African national team, but Khune in particular is wary, as he knows that while he may be familiar with the opposition, there are many within the Sundowns ranks who know his weaknesses just as well.

“Me‚ I play with a lot of Sundowns players in Bafana. So, I know their weaknesses and strengths‚ as much as they know mine, but whoever wins the match on Saturday will be the team who have prepared well,” he concluded.
