Premier Soccer League heavyweights Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya will not be part of their squad next season.

The Soweto heavyweights are shaping up for the new campaign and under coach Arthur Zwane, and they have opted to streamline their team to try and return some of their lost glory.

Amakhosi struggled for consistency last season and have ended up missing out on continental football, having finished fifth.

The 32-year-old Mphahlele joined Chiefs in 2016 from Mamelodi Sundowns and in the 2020/21 campaign, he made 15 PSL appearances for the club, scoring a goal and providing an assist.

"Kaizer Chiefs have opted to not extend Ramahlwe Mphahlele’s contract when it expires at the end of [July]," the team confirmed on Tuesday.

After making his debut for Amakhosi on August 23 against Wits, the defender went on to play 127 competitive matches for the club in the six seasons he was contracted to them.

"His leadership on and off the pitch saw him wear the captain’s armband a number of times for Amakhosi," the Glamour Boys continued.

"We thank 'Rama' for his hard work and wish him all the best in the future."

There was, however, no reason given by the club regarding the decision to part ways with Ntiya-Ntiya.

The defender was promoted to the senior team in 2018 and debuted for the club on January 6 the same year in the match against SuperSport United.

The versatile defender played 54 competitive matches for the Glamour Boys including the 2019 Nedbank Cup and Caf Champions League finals.

"The 25-year-old Ntiya-Ntiya has been given his clearance and will be able to join a team of his choice. Our well wishes to Siphosakhe for the future," Chiefs confirmed.

After finishing fifth on the PSL table last season with 47 points, Amakhosi are working towards competitively battling for the top-tier trophy as well as other domestic silverware.
