'It was the first goal that destabilized them'-Ibrahim Sunusi reveals how Nasarawa United overcame Delta Force

Nasarawa United midfielder, Ibrahim Sunusi has attributed their 4-1 victory over Delta Force in a rescheduled league tie on Wednesday in Lafia to their electrifying start during the game.

The game should have held along with other Matchday 12 fixtures over two weeks ago but the tussle over the ownership of the team forced the League Management Company (LMC) to shift the tie until everything was resolved.

Sunusi scored the first goal for the Solid Miners in the 23rd minute before further goals from Anas Yusuf, Thomas Adesina and Mohammed Shammasu in the 35th, 42nd and  95th minutes made it an overwhelming win for Bala Nikyu’s men while Philip Ozor’s 78th minute strike for Delta Force was merely a consolation goal for the visitors.

The midfielder said that they went into the game knowing that only a good win would be enough to take further away from the relegation zone and that he was thrilled that Nasarawa United made the game safe at the end of their first-half performance at the Lafia Township Stadium before the newly promoted top-flight side woke up into the game in the second half.

“I am very happy with this result and I am dedicating it to God and my Nasarawa United teammates,” Sunusi told GOAL.

“It was a game we came all out to win and I am glad that we achieved our objective. We started the game quite well and at the end of the first half, we already decided what we wanted for ourselves with the 3-0 half time lead.

“I knew that the second half won’t be easy and I must admit that had we not utilized the first half well, it would have been a different scenario in the second half. They are a good side but I must admit that it was the first goal that destabilized them and we were able to explore it with two further goals.

“The second half was entirely different and it was no surprise they pulled a goal back before we crowned it all with the fourth goal in the dying minutes of the encounter. This is an important win for us and it has made it two consecutive wins for us. We cannot ask for more.”

Nasarawa United’s last two wins have taken them to the fifth spot in the top-flight Group B with 19 points from 13 games and they will host FC IfeanyiUbah this weekend in Lafia in a game that could see them secure three straight victories for the first time in recent seasons.
