Goal takes a look at the seven overseas players signed by Chennaiyin FC ahead of the upcoming season of the Indian Super League...

With the fifth edition of the Indian Super League (ISL) fast approaching, the 10 teams have been busy finalising their rosters. With less than a month to go for the new season to kick-off, we take a look at how the teams have shaped up with respect to their overseas signings.

Here, we take a look at the seven foreigners who will turn out for the defending champions Chennaiyin FC.

The Spanish defender was one of the standout players for the Marina Machans last season and will once again be counted upon by coach John Gregory to hold fort in defence. The 36-year-old was brilliant at right-back for the team and can also play in central defence or in midfield, if the need arises.

The 29-year-old Brazilian centre-back is a familiar name for the Chennaiyin faithful, having played for the outfit during the 2016-17 season. After a spell with Al Raed in Suadi Arabia, he returns to familiar surroundings. He is expected to partner compatriot Mailson Alves in defence.

The 30-year-old centre-back was an absolute rock at the back last season for the team and will be turning out for the Marina Machans this season as well. Coach John Gregory will no doubt count on Mailson to keep churning out the sort of displays that helped Chennaiyin win the title last time around.

Raphael Augusto is a household name among the Chennaiyin faithful, given that he has been part of the setup since 2015. He was instrumental for the South Indian franchise last season and played a starring role in the final. He will once again be a key figure for Chennaiyin FC.

Italian-born Spanish attacking midfielder Andrea Orlandi makes the move to India with a commendable reputation. The former Barcelona player has turned out for the likes of Swansea City, Brighton & Hove Albion, Blackpool and the likes. The 34-year-old will be looking to spur Chennaiyin's attack on this time around.

Dependable Dutch winger Gregory Nelson will be a part of Chennaiyin FC for a second consecutive season. He was in excellent form last season and was a dependable outlet on the wings for the South Indian team. The 30-year-old will look to carry on in the same vein this season.

Looking to augment Jeje Lalpekhlua's goals in attack for Chennaiyin FC is Argentinian-born Palestine striker Carlos Salom. Having plied his trade in Argentina, Mexico and Thailand, the 31-year-old will look to pludner goals in India now.
