The Spanish coach acknowledged that Lajong played good football which made things difficult for East Bengal...

East Bengal brushed aside Shillong Lajong 3-1 at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in Shillong. Jobby Justin's brace and debut league goal for Bidyasagar Singh were enough to seal the three points for the Kolkata giants.

Due credit should be given to Lajong despite East Bengal's win as they played impressive football for the lion's share of the match. Coach Alejandro Menendez praised his opponent's style of play and at the same time had words of appreciation for the likes of Borja Gomez and Jhonny Acosta.

"I liked the way Lajong played. They play good combination football. They were making good supporting runs. It was a difficult match. We were yet to adapt to the ground whereas they were at home. But I congratulate my team because they played very well in defence.

"They had more of the ball, they were good in possession because they were at their home ground. They played a lot of passes which made it difficult for us to play possessional football. But when we had possession we controlled the match," said the coach.

East Bengal striker Jobby Justin had a brilliant day at the office as he found the net on two occasions.

"It is always good to get three points from an away game. We played as a team and hence it was possible. I also thank the travelling fans for supporting us. We did it," said Justin.

Shillong Lajong coach Alison Kharsyntiew made it clear that although he is disappointed with the scoreline, he is happy with the way his boys played.

"I am disappointed with the result but I am not disappointed with the performance of the boys. They were good at keeping the ball. Lack of experience is always there. But I want them to learn from every game.

"I prefer to play attacking ball. We have to work on our final balls and on our finishing. I believe in Mahesh and Samuel as I know that they can score. The last goal was a mistake on our part. But I always tell my players that if you make a mistake no problem but ensure that you don't commit it again," concluded the coach.
