Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson believes that his performances this season have justified his call-up to the England squad.

The Cherries are flying high, sitting sixth in the Premier League and Wilson has played a massive part in their success so far.

Wilson has netted six times, as well as assisting four goals, form which has caught the eye of England coach Gareth Southgate, who has called him up for the games against the U.S. national team and Croatia.

After his good start to the season Wilson feels like he belongs in the England setup, saying: "When I walked in [to England training] I felt like I should be here.

"I felt like my performances this season have justified my selection.

"I play against different players from the squad week-in, week-out, so you get to see them and you have that mutual respect there. But I always felt comfortable coming here."

Wilson has been a consistent threat for Bournemouth since their promotion to the Premier League in 2015 but two cruciate ligament injuries halted his progress.

He says that the injury setbacks gave him the desire to work harder to earn himself his first England call-up, adding: "I've had a few setbacks but they have just made me stronger really.

"It makes you appreciate things more so when you get here, now you appreciate it a lot more because of what you have done in the past."

The 26-year-old praised Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe for helping him become the player he is today.

Howe first signed Wilson in the Championship where he hit 20 goals as the south coast side won the league.

"He is a fantastic manager," Wilson said. "He has given me a fantastic opportunity and a platform.

"He bought me when they were in the Championship and had a vision to get into the Premier League within a few years and that was something I wanted to do as well, being ambitious.

"That's what he has done. He has also improved me as a player, tactically as well as technically."
