Hibernian’s Efe Ambrose advises John McGinn ahead of potential move to Celtic

Hibernian defender Efe Ambrose has advised teammate John McGinn ahead of a potential switch to Celtic.

The Bhoys are negotiating a transfer fee for the midfielder, although an initial £1.5 million fee has been rejected by the Easter Road outfit.

And the 29-year-old, who spent five years with the Bhoys has stated that the former St. Mirren man will have to fight for his place if the deal goes through because of the ‘quality players’ at Celtic.

“Celtic is a place that comes with huge responsibility and the fans are special,” Ambrose told The Sun.

“I am not surprised to see Celtic come in for John. He has done so well for this club and he has helped put us in the position that we are in today.

“But if he does get there he will need to fight for his place.

“There are quality players all around you and they all want to play but I think John can make the step up.

“If he does join them, then that is just football and we would wish him well.

“He has the quality and the ability to succeed there.”

McGinn could be missing in action when Hibernian take on Blackburn Rovers in a pre-season friendly game on Sunday.
