Hamza Mendyl signs for Bundesliga side Schalke 04

The 20-year-old joined the German outfit from the French top-tier side Lille after an agreement was reached by both teams.

And Domenico Tedesco has revealed the defender’s qualities as he anticipates the presence of the new recruit in his squad for the term.

"We [Schalke 04 and Lille] have spent a long and detailed time with Hamza [Mendyl] and are happy that we were able to sign him,” coach Domenico Tedesco told club website.

“He brings a lot with what we want for this position: athletics, dynamics, robustness and courage in the offensive. We are eager to take the next steps in our development with this talent.”

Mendyl, after committing his future to the Veltins-Arena outfit, expressed his delight in signing up for the club under the guidance of the German-Italian manager.

"I am very happy to have signed a contract with such a big club," he said.

"With Tedesco, I encounter a coach known for improving players. He proved that impressively last year. I too would like to develop further under him and help Schalke 04 play a good role in all three competitions [Bundesliga, DFB Pokal and Champions League].”

The defender could make his debut for Schalke 04 when they lock horns with Wolfsburg in their 2018-19 German Bundesliga season-opener at the Volkswagen Arena on August 25.
