Gyan speaks to Ghanaians on Brimah

The Ghana skipper has put in a word for his beleaguered national team colleague

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan wants Ghanaians to forgive embattled Black Stars goalkeeper Razak Brimah, who fell out with fans at the just-concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

The shot-stopper took to social media to hit back at critics, using the F-word, ahead of Ghana's semi-final fixture with Cameroon.

There were calls for his immediate dismissal from camp, but coach Avram Grant turned a deaf ear, fielding the Cordoba man in the 2-0 defeat to the Indomitable Lions.

“I will like to take this opportunity to plead for Razak Brimah," Gyan told Angel FM.

"I want Ghanaians to forgive him, he admits he didn’t do the right thing and so he apologized.

“We the players also knew what he did was wrong and we spoke to him.

"I spoke to him myself, I believe he has regretted his actions and I will like to plead with Ghanaians to let sleeping dogs lie.”

Brimah later apologized for his outburst, but that didn’t save him from a $2500 fine imposed by the Ghana FA.

Born in Accra, the 29-year-old rose to prominence in 2013 when he manned the post as Ghana finished second at the Afcon in Equatorial Guinea.

Has has since become the undisputed No.1, but periodic goalkeeping errors, coupled with just two first team appearances for his Spanish second division side this season, have seen him come under scrutiny.
