Gor Mahia reschedule departure date for Tanzania friendly

Gor Mahia will play English Premier League side Everton on Thursday in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The green army 'won' the rights to face the Toffees after winning the Super Cup, involving eight teams, last month. Initially, the Kenyan side was scheduled to depart on Monday (today) but that will not be the case as explained by the team's Organizing Secretary Judith Nyangi.

"The team is leaving on Tuesday for Tanzania, a day later than initially planned. This is because of logistical issues, remember we also played on Sunday. But by 6.45pm we will be in the plane to Dar. The travelling party will be announced later today (Monday), but we are definitely going with a strong side," Nyangi told Goal.

Everton under Ronald Koeman have named a strong squad for the fixture that includes new signing Wayne Rooney. Rooney reported for first day training session at USM Finch Farm on Monday and has been named in the traveling party for the friendly in Tanzania.

And now Rooney is looking forward to getting to know more of the squad on his maiden visit to Tanzania. "I’m looking forward to it - it should be a good trip,” he told evertontv.

“It’ll be nice and hopefully I’ll get on the pitch and get some game-time. It’s good when you go away with the team. It’s good to be around the hotel with the players, spend more time with them and get to know them more. I’ve never been to Tanzania before, so I’m really looking forward to it.”
