Gor Mahia enter race to sign Simba defender as replacement for Godfrey Walusimbi

Gor Mahia have now entered the race to sign Simba SC defender Jamal 'Hillal' Mwambeleko, Goal understands.

The 24-year-old left back has hardly been accorded game time at the Tanzanian champions this season and especially since a proposed loan move to Singida United fell through at the last minute in July.

Formerly at Mbao FC, Mwambelelo is actively said to be pursuing a move away from the Wekundu wa Msimbazi, even if on a temporary basis. He has been capped six times by the Tanzania national team Taifa Stars and also been linked with Ethiopian champions Jimma Aba Jifar, alongside Bandari.

Gor Mahia are looking for a left-sided defender to fill the gap left by Ugandan Godfrey Walusimbi, who moved to Kaizer Chiefs and it is understood that the speedy and skillful Mwambeleko has been factored in as plan 'B' choice should the club fail to sign Shafiz Batambuze.

Mwambeleko made his name at Mbao FC during the 2016/2017 Tanzanian league season with his skill and marauding runs. He transferred this form to Simba upon completing a Sh3 million move, and is also remembered for scoring two league goals when Simba beat Mwadui in the league last season.
