Gor Mahia coach Dylan Kerr has explained that he got what he wanted despite losing to Kenya U-20 side on Wednesday.

K’Ogalo were subjected to a 2-0 defeat by the Rising Stars in a friendly played at Camp Toyoyo with Sydney Lokale and Richard Odanda on target.

However, the outcome of the friendly did not shock coach Kerr, who instead, warned his players not under estimate opponents.

“We got what I wanted from the match, a good workout for the players because many of them got time to play but it was also a good lesson for my players not to underrate opponents,” Kerr told Goal.

The Rising Stars are preparing to face Rwanda in the first leg of Afcon qualifier set for this Sunday at Kenyatta Machakos Stadium with the return leg slated for between April 20, and April 22, 2018 in Kigali.

The team has been in camp in Nairobi for one month, ahead of the first-round tie. Should Kenya edge past Rwanda, a two-legged fixture against Zambia will be in line for the Rising Stars in the second round.

Coach Kerr is confident that the Kenyan side can progress to the next stage of the qualifiers. “They are a good side, a very young side because they troubled us during the friendly. I have a feeling that they will do better in the qualifiers.”

Gor Mahia have a league match against Vihiga United at Kisumu Stadium this weekend.
