Cape Town City head coach Benni McCarthy has quashed any suggestion that he is ready to throw in the towel.

The Citizens recently suffered a 2-0 defeat to AmaZulu which saw City fall out of the Telkom Knockout, and many have since questioned whether or not McCarthy has been contemplating stepping down as he appeared a highly frustrated figure during his post-match interview.

Nonetheless, while McCarthy has said that something will have to give if his players are to improve, the 40-year-old former Bafana Bafana star is adamant that he is not going anywhere.

"There is going to be a heart-to-heart talk between the boys and soon. Something has to change. No one is prepared to take the responsibility of scoring,” McCarthy told the media.

"I've never quit or gave up in my life and I'm certainly not going to do so now even though I have thought about it if I must be honest,” he added.

"I've got a great bunch of players who have the capacity to achieve so much in this league, but they just need to believe in their own ability more like I believe in them, then we'll be fine," he concluded.

McCarthy will hope for a better response from his players this coming weekend as City take on Usuthu for the second time in the space of the week. This time though, the clash will be played in the Mother City.

Meanwhile, City’s woes will be further worsened as they will be without influential defender Kwanda Mngonyama. The former Mamelodi Sundowns defender picked up his fourth yellow card of the season in midweek and will miss the clash against AmaZulu.

This will give McCarthy another headache to deal with as he plans for the clash on Saturday evening.
