Free State Stars midfielder Sinethemba Jantjie has passed away at the age of 30.

While details of Jantjie's sudden death are still unclear, the player was involved in a car accident in the early hours of Monday (April 1) morning.

This was also confirmed by Ea Lla Koto in an official statement released on Monday.

"It is with great sorrow that the club reports on the passing away of one of our players Mr. Sinethemba Jantjie," read the statement.

"Mr. Jantjie passed away in the early hours of the morning when his car was involved in an accident. We will inform you of the funeral and memorial arrangements after meeting with the family," concluded the statement.

Jantjie made a name for himself at the Bethlehem-based outfit soon after joining the club from Mbombela United in 2016.

He came close to joining Kaizer Chiefs in 2017, but the proposed deal never materialised after the parties involved failed to reach an agreement.

In January 2010, Jantjie signed a pre-contract with Bidvest Wits as his contract with Ea Lla Koto was coming to an end on June 30.

He was set to join his new club on July 1, 2019, to try and take his football career to another level and perhaps catch the eye of national team coach Stuart Baxter.

Jantjie scored four goals and grabbed one assist in 20 league appearances for Stars this season.

Overall, Jantjie made 24 appearances across all competitions this term, and his passing is certainly a huge blow for Ea Lla Koto who are fighting to stay in the elite league.

Goal would like to send its heartfelt condolences to the friends and family of Jantjie as well as his current club, Free State Stars and Wits, who were prepared to help the player reach his full potential next season.
