EXTRA TIME: John Obi Mikel launches talent hunt series for African youngsters

Tianjin Teda midfielder John Obi Mikel, through Mikel Obi Foundation, has announced the launch of talent hunt series tagged 'Africa’s Next Football Superstar'.

The series eligible for kids between the ages of 13-16 years is expected to hold across three African countries – Nigeria, South Africa and Algeria.

Five winners will be chosen from the host nations which will then be narrowed to nine youngsters who will win an all-expense paid trip to the United Kingdom and trial with a top English club that will span a period of two weeks with an opportunity to earn a year contract with the club’s youth team.

Nigeria trial starts in Lagos, Port Harcourt and Abuja on March 15, 18 and 20 respectively while the final is scheduled to hold from May 2 to 9, 2019.

Mikel has enjoyed an illustrious playing career leading Nigeria to the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia and was a key member of the Dream Team VI that won the bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
