2017 African Player of the Year, Mohamed Salah led a team of African stars including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ahmed Hegazi, Andre Ayew, Keita Balde in expressing their condolences following Davide Astori’s tragic death at the age of 31.
The defender was found died in his hotel room in Udine on Sunday as the Viola prepare for their scheduled Serie A match with Udinese, which was later called off with all other Serie A fixtures.
Following the confirmation of his death by Fiorentina, the African players unite in mourning the Italy star who made 14 international appearances for the Azzurri.
Former Lazio forward and Senegal international Keita Balde wrote on his social media, "Rest in peace #RIP. Send condolences to the #astori family."
Schalke 04's Amine Harit wrote, "Rest in peace Davide Astori."
Torino midfielder Joel Obi posted, "Today is a sad day, it did not have to go like this. RIP warrior."
Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wrote, "I met you a bit in Milan but I'm still upset. RIP Davide."
Morocco international and Juventus defender Medhi Benatia posted, "All my condolences to the Astori family. How sad!!! Rest in peace champion."
