Essien tips Germany for World Cup success

Ghana international Michael Essien believes Germany are most likely to win the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia.

Die Mannschaft have been widely tipped to successfully defend the title which they won at the Brazil 2014 following an overwhelming performance at the Confederations Cup which they won without some key first team players earlier this year.

“I think I’ll go for Germany [to win the cup]," said Essien, as reported by Citifmonline.

"They are quite good when it comes to tournaments.

"They won the last one and they have the players to do it again."

To stand a chance of winning a fifth title, Germany will have to progress from a tricky Group F, which also houses Mexico, Sweden and South Korea.

Essien, meanwhile, has the enviable experience of playing at the World Cup, having represented Ghana at two tournaments.

The 34-year-old made his debut in 2006, and returned to the global gathering at Brazil 2014 after missing the 2010 edition due to injury.
