The People’s Elephant and the Peace Boys have ended their Federation Cup tie in a draw and are optimistic of qualifying from the group

Enyimba and Plateau United have brightened their chances of qualification for the quarter-final of the 2018 Federation Cup after they both played an entertaining 1-1 draw in a Group A fixture played at the Pantami Stadium, Gombe on Thursday.

It was the Peace Boys that drew the first blood in the 32nd minute through Hamzat Owolabi barely 25 minutes after the centre referee ruled that Sunday Adetunji’s effort was from the offside. The first half ended 1-0 in favour of the 2017 NPFL champions but things changed in the second half.

About eight minutes after the restart of the game from the first half break, Adetunji this term found the back of the net to even the scores at 1-1 and it was how the game ended.

The draw ensured that Plateau United remain on top of the group with four points from two games and both will advance to the next round if they are able to pick at least a point from their next games with Katsina United and J. Atete respectively on Friday.

In the second game played in Gombe, Katsina United edged J. Atete in a six-goal thriller at the Pantami Stadium.

Timothy Danladi opened the floodgates of goals in the seventh minute for Katsina United from the penalty spot after an infringement in the vital area while Tasiu Lawal doubled the Chanji Boys advantage in the 27th minute. J. Atete managed to pull one back through Endurance Edebiri in the 28th minute but Katsina United led 2-1 at halftime.

Danladi continued from where he stopped in the second half with his second goal of the game and his team’s third goal in the 60th minute before Obinna Eleje made it more emphatic with the fourth goal in the 76th minute.
