The Bafana Bafana midfielder hopes their win over Free State Stars will lift their morale heading into the clash against Chippa United

SuperSport United skipper Dean Furman says a lot of factors have contributed to their poor run of form as they find themselves involved in the relegation play-off battle.

The MTN8 Cup champions are placed 14 on the log table with two games to play, and a point above the relegation play-off spot.

Furman believes their 3-2 win over Free State Stars will go a long way in motivating them to return to winning ways.

In the wake of the victory, they now have 32 points and will want to see 15th-placed Ajax Cape Town lose to leaders Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.

The 2016 Caf Confederation Cup finalists are away to Chippa United this Saturday as they want to keep winning and eventually escape the PSL/National First Division play-offs.

Speaking as they travel to the Eastern Cape, the Bafana Bafana international admitted that it’s been a tough season for the Tshwane giants.

However, he said there was so much excitement after lifting the MTN8 Cup and that fatigue resulting from their continental travels has hit them hard.

“To come back on Wednesday was certainly a sign of that character and hopefully that’s what will see us through in the next two games,” he told SuperSport.

“It’s been a tough season for us. It started so well, it’s certainly been one of the strangest seasons,” he reacted.

“We got to the final of Caf Confederations Cup, won the MTN8; we started the league and were on target in the early stages,” continued the skipper.

“All the hype was around us, there was so much excitement then the fatigue factor hit us and we had injuries to a number of key players,” he noted.

“We really suffered and of course we had loss of form and loss of confidence,” admitted the 29-year-old.

“It’s been a number of things that have really affected us, but hopefully with that win on Wednesday we can find that little bit of confidence that can see us through,” he concluded.
