FA Cup and Premier League winners meet to decide the first silverware of the season

There may still be a few weeks to go until the FA Premier League new season kicks off in earnest, but prior to that comes the Community Shield. On 5 August, old rivals Chelsea and Manchester City will meet at Wembley Stadium to compete for the first trophy of the season.

For Chelsea, the summer has been one of upheaval. Italian coach Antonio Conte has finally left, with former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri coming into replace him. Over at City, however, Guardiola is looking to build on his excellent campaign last term.

Where can I win money in this tie?

There may be a lot of transfer hype during the off-season, but we are close to getting back down to business. The two last winners of the Premier League, Manchester City and Chelsea, are set to battle next month in the season’s curtain raiser.

City broke all kinds of records last season and it is no surprise that they come into this game as the favourites. One of the simplest bets you can make is on the outcome after 90 minutes, and the odds on the current league champion s are short.

Manchester City are at just 1.90 to be leading once 90 minutes are up. To put that into context, Chelsea’s price to win in normal time is at exactly double that – 3.80, according to Oddsshark.

However, there is a more straightforward bet you can make. Ignoring whether the game ends after 90 minutes or penalties, you can make a bet simply based on who will lift the trophy.

Again, City are at shorter odds. The Citizens are at just 1.50 to get their hands on this year’s Community Shield, while Chelsea are further out at 2.50.

There is, however, no denying that Chelsea are also a strong side packed with world class talents. If you think these sides will battle to a stalemate then the price to back that outcome is 3.60, meaning the game would then go to penalties.

And you can also make a bet based on the game being decided by penalties. A “Yes” to that possibility is priced at 3.50, while a “No” is at the shorter 1.28.

But while this is usually seen as a fairly friendly way to kick off the domestic season, Chelsea and Manchester City have become fierce rivals over the course of the last few seasons. For that reason, this could be a tense, fiery affair, high on atmosphere but low on goals – these two will hope to be fighting for the league title come the business end of the season, and for that reason may use this opportunity to size each other up.

That could however lead to less goals than we might see in a game when there is less pressure on both sets of players. While it is never easy trying to predict the exact score line of a game, a 1-0 win for Manchester City is priced at 8.50 – that means a US$5 dollar bet would offer a US$42.50 pay out.

That would also mean that the game contained less than 2.5 goals. You can more than double your money by backing under 2.5 goals in this tie at 2.07, while over 2.5 goals is slightly lower at a price of 1.72.

Always keep in mind that the more specific your bets, the higher the rewards are likely to be, and it is the same with goals in a game. Under two goals is priced at 4.00, the price drops to 2.00 for two or three goals and then over three goals rises slightly to 2.75.

The style of football that Pep Guardiola likes to play is now well renowned in the world of football. But in what will be Sarri’s first match in charge of Chelsea, the Italian is sure to want to get off to a positive start and we could well see an explosive start to this one.

Manchester City are at 8.00 to be ahead after the first 10 minutes. If you think Chelsea will take an early lead that price rises to 11.00, while an even score 10 minutes in is at just 1.18.

Odds (after 90 minutes): Chelsea (3.80), Manchester City (1.90), draw (3.60)
