Who will be the Championship 2019-20 top goalscorer? Mitrovic, Maupay & odds on top contenders

The Championship is back for the new 2019-20 season, with the prize of Premier League promotion up for grabs, and punters have a myriad of options.

One of the most popular ante post wagers is set to be on the top scorer market, which offers plenty of value for those looking for higher odds.

Aleksandar Mitrovic – Fulham

Mitrovic - 5/1 (6.0) with 888Sport - spent the second half of the 2017-18 Championship season on loan at Fulham and scored 12 goals in just 17 appearances to help the Cottagers to promotion via the play-offs.

The Serbian was then one of the few bright sparks of that dismal Premier League campaign, netting 11 times, and is the justified favourite to top the scoring charts next season as Fulham look for an immediate return to the top flight.

Neal Maupay – Brentford

Maupay was second-top scorer last season as he plundered 25 goals for Brentford, four behind Norwich City’s Teemu Pukki, and Bees fans will certainly be hoping for a similar tally this time around.

Brentford have kept their faith in the 22-year-old by not signing another striker this summer, and at 7/1 (8.0) could represent a popular selection for bettors.

Karlan Grant – Huddersfield Town

Huddersfield’s second season in the Premier League ended as many expected it would, but January signing Karlan Grant - 11/1 (12.0) - was certainly one of their better players in a forgettable campaign.

Of the 22 league goals the Terriers managed, four were scored by Grant, and he is set to lead the line again having scored three times in pre-season.

Britt Assombalonga – Middlesbrough

Seasoned Championship striker Britt Assombalonga scored 14 goals in just 28 starts last term as Boro just missed out on a play-off spot, taking his career tally to 59 goals in 155 appearances in the division.

Although the DR Congo international will likely be the focal point of Jonathan Woodgate’s attack this season, the fact that he has never scored more than 15 goals in a season may be enough to put many punters off 888Sport's 4/1 (15.0) odds on offer.

Patrick Bamford – Leeds United

Ever a divisive figure, Bamford suffered two major injury problems last season but still managed nine goals in just 22 games for Leeds as they fell just short of promotion.

The former Chelsea striker will start at least the first few games of the season due to Kemar Roofe being injured, which could give him chance to prove his worth to Marcelo Bielsa for the rest of the campaign. He's available at 14/1 (15.0) with 888Sport.

Best of the Rest

Lewis Grabban is a 16/1 (17.0) shot after netting 16 times for Nottingham Forest and could be a popular choice at that price, whilst Roofe is priced at 18/1 (19.0) after scoring 14 times in 32 games last term.

Hull City striker Jarrod Bowen struck 22 times and could well demonstrate a shrewd bet at 20/1 (21.0) as the Tigers look for another comfortable mid-table finish.
