Cedric Bakambu fire blanks as Beijing Guoan defeat Chongqing Lifan

The Congolese forward was on parade for 90 minutes but failed to score as his side won at home to maintain their lead in the Chinese topflight

Cedric Bakambu was not on the scorer’s sheet as Beijing Guoan defeated Chongqing Lifan 2-1 in a Chinese Super League encounter played on Thursday.

Goals from Jonathan Viera and Renato Augusto were all the Imperial guards needed to edge past the visitors who got their lone strike through Fernandinho.

Guoan took the lead through Viera in the 21st minute but the hosts levelled matters through Fernandinho in the 66th minute thanks to an assist from Seba.

With the game looking to be heading for a 1-1 draw, Fernandinho sealed the win 12 minutes from full time.
