Carroll to Chelsea? I’ve no idea – Moyes in the dark over transfer link

David Moyes has admitted that he has “no idea” if there is any truth to reports linking striker Andy Carroll with a January switch to Chelsea.

The England international was on the bench as West Ham drew 1-1 with Tottenham at Wembley on Thursday, rotated out of the squad after scoring a match-winning double against West Brom two days earlier.

In the wake of that contribution, the 28-year-old striker was associated with a move to Stamford Bridge, yet Hammers manager Moyes is in the dark if there is a deal brewing.

“I’ve no idea about that,” he said when quizzed on Carroll’s situation by Sky Sports after the Spurs draw.

He did hint, however, that he has more than enough offensive options at his disposal to lead the side away from trouble.

“We need some extra players, we're quite well endowed in certain areas - upfront we've got a lot of players to choose from - but we don't have it in other areas,” he said.

Moyes has started to lead West Ham up the Premier League standings, yet their situation would have looked so much more comfortable had they held onto the 1-0 lead given to them by Pedro Obiang’s stunning goal. Heung-Min Son instead levelled matters with five minutes left, but despite squandering two points, the Scot says his plans for the month ahead have not been altered.

“No, it doesn't affect my thinking,” he said.

"I've been here for seven or eight weeks, so the club should have an idea what is required as well.”

West Ham are now 15th in the standings, two points clear of the drop zone. Had they held on to victory on Thursday, they would have climbed as high as 11th.
